Sanctuary Canberra;
We are doing business in a different light.
Quality events.
At Sanctuary quality is behind everything we offer - think blank canvas with warmth and charm, natural light, floor to ceiling windows, wooden floors, tasteful table settings, and outstanding service for an event to remember.
Community Origins.
Here on Ngunnawal country, managed by locals for locals, Sanctuary, Canberra is an old Uniting Church building that knows the value of community and gathering. We are only caretakers for a short while and proudly continue the tradition of welcoming all kinds of community gatherings.
Philanthropic Values.
Sanctuary, Canberra believes we are all responsible for leaving this world a little better than we found it. For us this means donating part of every booking fee to for purpose enterprises and charities that support women and children, especially here in Canberra.
We are proud to support our sister enterprise At Her Table as well as Bloom Asia, Cancer Council, Destiny Rescue, and Pink Elephants Support Network.
Sanctuary, Canberra - managed by Rise Events
Lauren Harkness, founder of Sanctuary, Canberra, felt something in this old building long before it looked like it does today. She knew it could be so much more - a hub for neighbours to gather, learn, collaborate, and share experiences.
Through careful planning, lots of hard work, and a little faith as the Territory entered COVID-19 lockdowns, Sanctuary, Canberra launched in its current form in August 2021.
A testament to her placemaking skills, all who enter Sanctuary, Canberra feel its warm welcome and gentle sense of belonging.
Lauren Harkness of Rise Events continues to manage this venue on behalf of the Canberra Region Presbytery of the Uniting Church in Australia.
“There is a rich history of love and hospitality in the foundations of this beautiful building as it was one of the gathering places for the community of the Uniting Church for over 50 years.
When I first stepped in the space back in 2020 I felt its warmth and light and saw an opportunity to continue the service of hospitality; by connecting with the community and celebrate life events here.”
