Lauren Harkness, founder of Sanctuary and Rise Events, felt something in this old building long before it looked like it does today. She knew it could be so much more - a hub for neighbours to gather, learn, collaborate, and share experiences. Sanctuary is a lovingly restored church building. Through careful planning, lots of hard work, and a whole lot of faith as the Territory entered COVID-19 lockdowns, Sanctuary, Canberra launched in its current form in August 2021. A testament to her placemaking skills, all who enter Sanctuary, Canberra feel its warm welcome and gentle sense of belonging. Rise Events continues to manage this venue on behalf of the Canberra Region Presbytery of the Uniting Church in Australia. “There is a rich history of love and hospitality in the foundations of this beautiful building as it was one of the gathering places for the community of the Uniting Church for over 50 years. When I first stepped in the space back in 2020 I felt its warmth and light and saw an opportunity to continue the service of hospitality; by connecting with the community and celebrate life events here.” At Sanctuary quality is behind everything we offer - think blank canvas with warmth and charm, natural light, floor to ceiling windows, wooden floors, tasteful table settings, and outstanding service for an event to remember. Here on Ngunnawal country, managed by locals for locals, Sanctuary, Canberra is an old Uniting Church building that knows the value of community and gathering. We are only caretakers for a short while and proudly continue the tradition of welcoming all kinds of community gatherings. These may be taken from your bond. - Rise Events will not accept bookings sight unseen. It is a requirement that the venue is first toured before a booking is placed and accepted. - Upon receipt of your booking request, a Rise Events team member will check your booking time and date and be in touch to confirm or discuss amendments if necessary. - A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to secure your booking with final balance due 14 days prior to your event date. - From your online quote you can accept, decline, comment or print. Once accepted, an invoice will be generated and you can arrange payment. By paying your fee and your bond, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to the Terms + Conditions as stated on our website below. - Rise Events reserves the right to decline a request for the hire of any of the spaces at Sanctuary. - All bookings must complete and return this document as set out by the Uniting Church NSW/ACT Synod Property Services. If you do not have one, you can obtain a FREE one through: [https://www.nswact.uca.org.au/media/puhlsics/hall-hirers-public-liability-application-form.pdf](https://www.nswact.uca.org.au/media/puhlsics/hall-hirers-public-liability-application-form.pdf) - The Hirer will be asked to provide a copy of their current Certificate of Currency prior to the confirmation of any bookings. Please email a copy through to sanctuary@riseevents.com.au - Rise Events recognises that on the rare occasion a booking will need to be postponed. - Postponements can be made up to 30 days before the booking date, free of charge. - Please note while Rise Events has empathy for every circumstance, we cannot guarantee availability on your chosen new date. In the event of date unavailability, please refer to our cancellation policy (below). - All venue hire payments made to Rise Events will be forfeited in the event of a cancellation. A cancellation must be made in writing to sanctuary@riseevents.com.au - Cancellations made 7 or fewer days prior to your hire date are committed to the total spend and no refunds can be issued. - Timber hard wood floors and floor-to-ceiling windows with white curtains, piano (can not be moved). Items include: 1 x three seater lounge, 5 armchairs, 2 coffee tables and 4 x side tables, 2 x 2 metre tables. - Floor Size: Floor 12 x 8 metres | Stage - 8 x 2.5 metres | Floor to ceiling - 3.5 metres - The first-floor bathrooms are accessible via stairs only. - There is no lift on site. - We do not allow smoke machines, dry ice, pyrotechnics at Sanctuary Canberra. - We do not allow jumping castles or inflatable climbing equipment inside Sanctuary Canberra. - All booking sessions must include your set-up and pack-down times. You will be charged for additional time onsite outside of your booking time. - Please note that the smart door lock will notify Rise Management of your departure and any extra time past the booking time will be deducted from your bond. Additional time is charged at $165 per hour or part thereof. - Hours of hire are between 8am and 10pm. If an event is held in the evening the venue must be secure and cleaned before 10pm. All guests must be off the property by 10pm and thank you for respecting our neighbours and keeping noise to a minimum. - Access to the venue is limited to the hire hours, this includes storing property and equipment. This is particularly important to note, as the space may be hired to others immediately before or after the hire. - Delivery and collection of goods must occur during the booked and prepaid hours of hire. Rise Events will not assume responsibility for any delivery or collection of your goods and equipment. - Key codes may not be issued unless the hire charges are paid in full. - The venue and all equipment are to be left cleaned and undamaged and returned to their designated storage place/s. If this is not adhered to, a cleaning fee will be deducted from your bond. We will provide you with basic cleaning equipment including broom, bucket, mop, wipes and disinfectant spray to wipe surfaces and sweep floors. - We understand that breakages of glassware or crockery might happen and we would appreciate you giving us the heads up if this occurs during your event. However, in the case where the venue or Rise Events property is damaged or the venue is left in an unsatisfactory state, you will be liable for any extra costs incurred to clean or repair and a fee will be deducted from your bond or invoiced accordingly. Photographs of what we deem to be unreasonable will be taken and supplied to the hirer should this occur. - It is the your responsibility, at all times, to ensure that the premises remain secure throughout the period of hire, particularly when leaving the venue, even for a short period. - You are not therefore, permitted to leave the doors to a venue unlocked and unattended at any time throughout the period of hire. Sanctuary is to be secured before departure. - You must ensure that all external windows and doors are secured on departure. - You are required to provide all your own resources, including stationery, signage and any other resources associated with the successful management of the function or event. - Rise Events can arrange catering for your function. Please contact us for a proposal. No food is permitted to be brought onto the property without approval by Rise Events. - You are responsible for checking personal electrical items to ensure any privately owned electrical equipment has suitable electrical surge and overload protection before plugging in. - Equipment which may cause damage to the facility, is not permitted inside or outside Sanctuary, this includes but not limited to: smoke machines, adhesive tape, nails, tacks, sparklers. You are not permitted to hang any items from the beams without prior approval by Rise Events. - All personal property must be removed from the venue at the completion hire period. Rise Events takes no responsibility for personal property used or left on venue premises. - Alcohol consumption is to be approved by Rise Events, and if permission is granted it must be in accordance with the Responsible Service of Alcohol. If you wish to BYO alcohol onto the property the event organiser must provide a copy of the Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate and name of the holder. - Security guards may be required at an event/function/activity where alcohol is being served, and are to be organised and paid for by you. - You are familiar with the exits prior to commencement of your event/function/activity. - Seek clarification if you are unsure. - Inform your guests of these procedures. - Observe the locations of, and the instructions on, extinguishers and fire blankets, prior to an event/function/activity. - You and your guests must not tamper with any device or system designed for use in an emergency such as fire extinguishers or fire hose reels. - Doors must be kept clear and remain accessible at all times throughout the event/function/activity. - Advise Rise Events if fire extinguishers and/or any other emergency equipment have been used in any way. - Bookings affected by pandemics, natural disasters or death may request date deferrals or you may place your bookings on hold. - Under the above circumstances, date deferrals and holds may only be done once. Postponements or holds can only be made more than 30 days prior to the hire date. - Postponements or holds within 30 days from the hire date are subject to our standard postponement and cancellation terms (see above). - New date bookings must be made, booked, and paid for within 12 months from original booked date. - You accept that it is the your responsibility to comply with current ACT Government COVID-19 rules and regulations regarding gatherings. - You must practice good hygiene. Rise Events will provide a hand sanitiser on view for people to access. It is a delight to host you and your guests. 9. **After your event:** We will contact you to see how your event went and will ask you to send us your BSB and Account number to process your bond refund. - **Arrival Time:** Please ensure you arrive at the scheduled time. This allows you to complete the setup without any disruptions. - **Parking:** We have designated parking available. Please use only the marked spots. - **Contact on Arrival:** For any immediate needs or questions, contact our Venue Manager on **0410 585 175** - **Keycode Entry:** One week prior to your event you will receive a unique keycode for access to the venue. To enter, input your code into the keypad at the main entrance. Make sure to press the "tick" key after entering your code. - **Security Note:** For the safety of all guests, please keep the door closed and locked during the event when not in use and avoid sharing your keycode with others. - **Amenities Provided:** Sanctuary Canberra provides some tables, outdoor cushions, and comfortable lounge seating. The bathrooms and kitchen are stocked with towelettes, soap, toilet paper, garbage bags and wipes. - **Lighting & Climate Control:** You are welcome to adjust the lighting and temperature. There are two split system air conditioners in the venue and the remote can be found on the kitchen bench. - **Furniture:** We have some tables, outdoor cushions, and comfortable lounge seating that you are welcome to use. Please be mindful when moving furniture to prevent any damage to the flooring or walls. - **Event Setup:** The space is designed to be flexible for various layouts. Feel free to arrange the furniture to fit your event needs, but we ask that everything be returned to its original configuration afterward. - **Kitchen Access:** You have full access to our kitchen facilities, which include a refrigerator, microwave, and dishwasher. - **Supplies Provided:** Basic kitchen items, including glassware, mugs, and utensils, are available for your use. Kindly bring any additional items you may need.
